Product Detail

Low Pedal Height: This makes for a very natural and comfortable ride. No more problems with toe numbness due to a too high of a pedal height.

50% Plus Weight Distribution to the Rear:This is important to have a well-balanced design; this contributes to high cruise speeds and low speed handling. 50% plus weight distribution to the rear, together with a low pedal height, run absolutely contrary to each other is SWB design. All bikes until now have had one or the other, but never both. To achieve this requires the most delicate balance. It would be far more inexpensive to build a bike with a higher pedal height, or one not so evenly balanced, to do both took extra cost and care.

Minimal Chain Deflection:Our philosophy on this subject is that the least amount you deviate the chain from a straight line, the faster you will go. There have been recumbent makers who ignore this, believing they can do whatever to the chain line without consequence - untrue. Look at the picture of the J-Dart. It was photographed with the chain on the middle ring in the front and on the 3rd cog in the rear. Notice the top chain line (power side) is running in an almost straight line. This is rare in SWB recumbent history. As you shift to progressively higher gears, the chain line straightens even more, increasing the driveline efficiency. Our design almost eliminates the need for a power idler. This, in part, is what is responsible for the J-Dart's high cruise speed.

Versatility: The J-Dart concept was designed to be as simple as possible, to avoid obsolescence, and to strive for timelessness. The Dart has a minimum of specialty parts. If desired, you can use components from other manufacturers such as seats, idlers, bars, and stems. In the future there are plans to offer head rests, carbon forks, fairing packages, and various reach stems for the bars. The J-Dart can be ordered with a 26" (559c) rear wheel or 700c. The rear triangle and 20" fork (406c) has ample room for differing width tire choices. If you have a J-Dart, your component possibilities are varied.

Adjustability: The J-Dart is a professional grade bicycle. It allows the owner to set the bike up in many different ways to accommodate a number of ergonomic styles. The recline of the seat from upright to extreme recline. The stems that can be faced back toward the rider for the classic 90 degree arm bend, or facing away for a near straight arm position. This versatility can be explored for years to come. Owning a J-Dart is like having many bicycles in one.

The Frame: The J-Dart is a triple diamond frame design. You will see it has the same tube configuration as an upright frame. Comprised of many smaller tubes, the advantage of this frame over the mono tube bike is a lighter and stiffer frame. This means greater acceleration. Although this type of design is more difficult and costly to manufacture, its performance and lighter weight make it sought after by the serious rider.

Each Dart is hand built in the U.S.A. one at a time. We use the finest chromoly tube sets in custom selected dimensions. TIG welded by professionals on a precision fixture.

Each Dart is then coated in high quality powder coat paint in a choice of colors, then finished with custom decals.
